Top-notch battle royale PUBG Mobile is ready to roll out a new map collection aimed at fostering awareness about climate change. The Play for Green campaign, launched within the framework of Playing for the Planet's Green Game Jam, enables players to turn their gaming movements into substantial real-world contributions to climate-change charities via the Run for Green event, which also provides exclusive digital perks.
Players will have the opportunity to navigate the Ruins of Erangel via two new maps - Sandstorm and Exploration - which illustrate the extent of climate change's transformation of this formerly lush battleground to a barren land. While Sandstorm offers the usual battle royale scenario requiring the collection of key medical packs while combating opposing players, Exploration leads players on an adventure through climate change impacts.
This initiative extends beyond the main game, introducing new items to the World of Wonder, including the endangered California Redwood and Giant Baobab trees. Moreover, a creativity-contest called the World of Wonder Green Creative Contest will task players to use these items to design their own maps based on the ruins of Erangel, competing for a top-grade prize.
It may seem paradoxical for a game centered on man-on-man combat to promote climate change awareness. However, it's a testament to PUBG Mobile's extensive reach, especially in the backdrop of its main rival Fortnite's recent mobile expansion.
Besides the new maps, PUBG Mobile is also set to launch challenges via its social media platforms, along with a new Preservation Garden feature for player homes to showcase endangered trees.
