Padmasmari doctor Duvall. Sundaravavelu was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Madras University in Tamil Nadu (from 1969 to 1972 and from 1973 to 1975). Prior to that, he worked as a Education Advisor for Tamil Nadu and Director of Public Education for many years.

In 1951, Sundaravelu was the director of public education. Then he worked with Kamaraj who was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Among these are the free education and free uniform schemes.
