An app for farmers to learn efficient way of irrigation and manure usage.

"The Blue Green Thumb" App was conceptualised by CHRYSALIS Fdn and further designed and developed jointly by C.E.C and CHRYSALIS Fdn.

In developing countries like India Agriculture accounts for 80% of all fresh water use. Among food crops, Rice guzzles the maximum amount of water. Unfortunately farmers mistakenly treat rice (amongst others) as an aquatic plant and consistently flood their fields. Existing practice wastes precious water, reduces the area under irrigated crop and uses electricity inefficiently. However, in reality Scientist advice against constant flooding of crops and suggest irrigation towards alternate wetting and drying of the crop (Kachal – Pachal), instead of continuously flooding the crop. Therefore, the new water management practice is based on the fact that the crop root zone saturated with the necessary moisture even after the cessation of irrigation.

The farmers are constrained because they don’t have access to a robust yet frugal device which can provide them a dynamic assessment of the water level in the crop root zone both at the time of Irrigation as well as continuously thereafter .The root zone crop water assessment needs to provide a feedback when to Start, Stop and Restart Water Application.

It is the object of the present invention is to provide crop water assessment device to indicate the level of the water to the farmer so that wastage of water can be avoided.
