The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi), or Chinese Proficiency Test, is an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers.

The new HSK 3.0 is a Chinese proficiency test that consists of nine levels, from beginner to advanced. Each level has a set number of required characters and vocabulary words.

Level 1

Characters: 300

Vocabulary: 500

At Level 1, students are able to communicate on basic everyday topics, such as greetings, introductions, and food. They can also read and write simple sentences.

Level 2

Characters: 600

Vocabulary: 772

At Level 2, students can communicate about a wider range of topics, including work, school, and leisure activities. They can also read and write more complex sentences.

Level 3

Characters: 900

Vocabulary: 973

At Level 3, students can communicate independently about most everyday topics. They can also read and write more complex texts, such as newspapers and magazines.

Level 4

Characters: 1200

Vocabulary: 1000

At Level 4, students can communicate fluently and accurately in most situations. They can also read and write complex academic and professional texts.

Level 5

Characters: 1500

Vocabulary: 1071

At Level 5, students can communicate fluently and accurately in all situations. They can also read and write complex academic and professional texts, as well as literary works.

Level 6

Characters: 1800

Vocabulary: 1140

At Level 6, students have a deep understanding of the Chinese language and culture. They can communicate fluently and accurately in all situations, and they can read and write complex academic and professional texts, as well as literary works.

Levels 7-9

Characters: 3000+

Vocabulary: 5636+

Levels 7-9 are reserved for advanced learners of Chinese. These learners have a deep understanding of the Chinese language and culture, and they can communicate fluently and accurately in all situations. They can also read and write complex academic and professional texts, as well as literary works.

It is important to note that the HSK is just one measure of Chinese proficiency. There are many other factors that go into determining how well someone can speak, read, and write Chinese, such as their level of exposure to the language and their cultural knowledge.
