Cicih Cangkurileung is the stage name for a singer known as a jaipongan, kliningan and kecapi singer. His real name is Cicih Rukesih. Cicih has released more than 100 cassette albums. Cicih Cangkurileung has had a career in the Sundanese arts world for more than 45 years, and is known as a singer who has a fierce (loud) voice, improvisations in senggol (song ornaments) especially Javanese senggol, pedotan (entrance technique, in each line of the song). He started using the stage name Cangkurileung (kutilang) when he took part in a sinden contest which required participants to use the original name of the bird.

Jaipongang or Jaipong is a typical Sundanese art. Born in Karawang and then quickly spread throughout the Sundanese region of West Java. Now, it is very popular among all Sundanese people. Jaipongan is a mandatory menu at all events in West Java -- from wedding parties to official government events.

Sundanese are an ethnic group originating from the western part of the island of Java, Indonesia, with the term Tatar Pasundan which covers the administrative areas of the provinces of West Java, Banten, Jakarta, and the western region of Central Java (Banyumasan).
