The Vedas are considered the earliest literary record of Indo-Aryan civilization, and the most sacred books of India. Vedas are the original scriptures of Hindu teachings, and contain spiritual knowledge encompassing all aspects of our life. Vedic literature with its philosophical maxims has stood the test of time and is the highest religious authority for all sections of Hindus in particular and for mankind in general.

The four Vedas: The Rig Veda, The Yajur Veda, The Sama Veda and The Atharva Veda.

VEDA – RIG VEDA ( Sakala Sakha) The Rig Veda is the first of the four Vedas and also the most important. Rig is the corrupted form of “rik”, which means a mantra of truth and spirituality. Vedas have a particular style of chanting whose vibrations are believed to alter the very atmosphere surrounding them.

VEDA- ATHARVA VEDA (Saunaka Sakha) Atharvaveda offers commentaries on both spiritual and non spiritual matters. Its teaching covers the field of medicines, agriculture, state craft, science, management, meditation, self introspection, dealings with enemies etc. Mantras included in the present vocal rendition relates to the removal of ill luck, healing, Nation building, longevity, defense against and remedies for sin and evil.

VEDA – SUKLA YAJUR VEDA ( Kanva Sakha) In these mantras the sages describe the Omni presence of god, the rishi says he is present in all, animate or inanimate. It is the duty of every man to enjoy god given resources with reverence and without attachment because no individual can claim right to nature’s recourses.

VEDA – SAMA VEDA ( Kauthuma Sakha – Madra Paddhati) Sama ved is the musical composition to which Indian music owes its origin. In these mantras the sages pray to the god to let mankind be free from lust, anger, avarice, attachment, envy and enmity! Instead to be virtuous, strong and so, prosper. One must focus the mind on our welfare and spiritual upliftment and pray that our country is blessed with enough food and wealth. Sama Ved Rishis teach us that our struggle through this turbulent life can be eased if one learns to forgive and overcome anger.
